The Beam carries a 10000mAh cell, so it goes where the work goes. The far end of the desk. The kitchen table. A hotel room. Plug it in over USB whenever you like. It just doesn't need you to.
The head is longer than most, and it's built in layers: a honeycomb lens over a diffusion film, a light-guide plate and a reflector behind it. The point of all that is even light. No bright strip, no hard shadow at the edge of the page, just a wide, flat pool across the desk.
Brightness slides smoothly from 10% to 100%, no fixed steps, and the colour shifts with it, cool for detail work, warm as the evening comes in. Touch the base to set it.
Two aluminium hinges let the arm open flat to roughly 180 degrees at the base and 120 degrees at the head, then fold down to almost nothing for a drawer or a bag. The shafts move quietly, which matters if someone next to you is asleep.
